Charlotte, Charlotte, Charlotte

What can we say? Our lives before baby Charlotte arrived are a hazy memory. She immediately fit right into our little family. And she's been an a-m-a-z-i-n-g baby, from the beginning.

In case we don't remember the evidence in years to come, here it is:
  • She didn’t get sick until she was 7 months old, and even then it was only a 2 day fever. And probably just teething.
  • She sleeps 11+ hours each night, and she's done this since 6 or 8 weeks old. (Ok ok, yes, she had a bout of night wakings in February, but that only lasted a week or so. Now she's back to her usual 7pm - 7am schedule. And we are spoiled.)
  • Charlotte eats like she's lived through a famine. So far there's no food she doesn’t like.
  • She loves, L-O-V-E-S, her big sister. The way she tenses with excitement and then shakes her arms and legs when Em comes near is super cute.
  • She’s an excellent sitter, and she’s definitely thinking about crawling – especially when Emily's coaxing her along.
  • She’s still a spitter, but she doesn’t seem to mind. And Em is always saying “That’s ok, babies do that sometimes.” And she’s right, they do. (I liked it when Em used to call spitting-up "dripping" as in, "Uh oh, Charlie dripped." It was somehow less icky when described that way.)
  • Charlotte started saying “buh, buh” a few weeks ago, and just last week she started saying “da-da-da-da". She's got no idea what these mean... or does she?! Either way, she gets pretty proud of herself for adding to our conversation. She definitely “talks” to Emily the most. And Em takes on a really loud high pitched voice when talking to Charlie, so as you can imagine their conversations are hilarious.
  • She cries tears. Big, fat, real tears. They've broken a few hearts around here lately, especially when mama or dada have to leave.
  • Her toy baskets provide hours (well minutes, but in baby time that's like hours) of independent entertainment. Favorites include blocks, plastic cups, and small chewable critters.
  • Bath-time is greeted with arm flapping and excited panting followed by a lunge for the water. We can't wait to get her into a swimming class.
  • She's a happy happy girl, that's for sure!

My Valentines

Before my maternity leave ended last month, we decorated for Valentine's Day. I had Emily coloring, drawing, cutting, painting, and stickering day and night. It was great, but one might say I went a little overboard.

It wasn't until I got back to work that it dawned on me - the decorating frenzy hadn't been about Valentine's day at all, the holiday was just my excuse to fill our house with hearts and love before I had to leave it.

Here're some pics of all that we made before I became a working mama again.

Now that we've made it through that transition, I think it's time to start taking down some of the hearts and decorating for the next holiday. Maybe we'll keep up the tradition of going a little overboard. After all, Em & Charlie love bunnies!!!

Molars!

Big sister Emily was brushing teeth tonight and we thought we'd check to see how the ol' chompers were doing. Low and behold, we saw new little white points sticking out on both sides of her top gums! Her molars are showing up. What a big girl she is!
