Home Improvement

April brought with it some much needed home repairs. A busted seal in our old dishwasher justified the purchase of this bad boy. We love it.

We also had our front gutters replaced, which was a long time coming. (Seems the roofers get pretty booked up during the rainy season, and our a little gutter job wasn't a big priority.)

Grandma G visits!

yay! Grandma G is in town and having fun with me.

so concerned

Eye Color

Emily's eye color seems to be stuck in a hazel between bluish green and brown. A few days ago, it looked like brown in the middle that faded to blue on the outside. I keep thinking that it's Momma's stubbon blue eye genes and Dadda's stubborn brown eye genes fighting on the battlefield that is Emily's irises. BTW, Momma is getting very good at taking photos with the DSLR!

The Universal Sigh

Today, Radiohead published a newspaper for no reason known to me. I suspect it was to correspond with their new album, The King of Limbs. In typical Radiohead fashion, all fans were very excited and it circulated around the web quite rapidly. I learned about it from Uncle Chris when he texted me to say that he got a Radiohead newspaper. I looked it up online and learned that two spots in SF would get papers at 1pm. My amazing wife and daughter passed up the opportunity to look at Pottery Barn rugs to wait in line and get a copy. For whatever reason, they asked people to get their photos taken when you got your copy. Their website shows hundreds and hundreds of photos of happy fans holding papers. Here's a screen capture of Amy and Emily on Radiohead's webpage! The link is below. Super cool. Thanks, Amy and Em!

Manners

When picking Emily up from daycare this evening, I learned that all day long she'd been crawling up to her playmates, getting within a few inches of their faces, and staring at them. Apparently this was off-putting to the other kids, but when they backed away Emily kept moving closer. Silly goose!

Favorites

These are a few of Emily's *favorite* things:
  • Crawling and standing, as evidenced above.
  • Visiting the birdies (parakeets, I think) at a toy store on Cortland.
  • Splashing up a storm during bath time.
  • Picking mint from our herb garden.
  • Singing/humming softly to herself.
  • Noshing on puffed wheat and cheerios.
  • Dogs. She is crazy about dogs. When she spies them in a book she lets out a really loud squeal. The same thing happens when she sees her stuffed dog from across the room. I'm pretty sure Matt's been coaching her.
Here's her squeal captured in a photo. (We held the dog next to the camera.)

Fun times with Grandpa G

Last month Grandpa G came out for a visit. We baked lasagna from scratch (delicious!), played Matt's childhood game Dungeon (so fun!), and slept in (just kidding!). Emily and Grandpa G also spent lots of quality time together:

Swinging in the backyard.

Drinking from a bottle cap.

Watching the big kids play nintendo.

During his visit, Grandpa also taught Em to play catch. This is after her first game. Look how happy she is!

Finger Foods

Emily ate her first solid food today: tissue! She loves pulling them out of the box and shredding them into teeny tiny pieces. This morning she moved too fast for us and popped a piece in her mouth. Dad wasn't able to fish it out, so down the shoot it went. Then this evening I made the mistake of letting her play with another tissue (silly mama!) and she quickly shoved a fistful into her mouth. I got most of it, but unfortunately not all.

On the bright side, her dexterity and hand-eye coordination are getting better!!

milestone

Today, I crawled over to the TV remote for my Mom. It was tough work, but I made it. Dad took a short video of me and will try to post it soon. All that crawling wore me out, so I'm off to bed. Have a good night!

where I eat

I got a new seat for eating!

I like peas (and sweet potatoes and squash). I don't like green beans.

I love yogurt and I still love oats!

bath time!

Emily is now big enough that she doesn't need the little infant bathtub hammock. Fortunately, she still fits in our sink!

I was promised that this crib would fit me until I'm a toddler. What gives?

I'm an excellent parallel parker.

giddy up!

No problem with Emily falling in this set up. She chokes us with her feet and tightly grabs our hair.
